Acne Scarring and Hyperpigmentation

Many patients with acne, particularly those with darker skin color, may develop residual long-lasting discoloration in sites of previous acne lesions. Patients complain that their acne lesions go away quickly, but these dark “scars” persist for many months. For this post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, The Bellevue Laser & Cosmetic Center offers a number of different treatment options. Besides prescribing bleaching creams, we may recommend chemical peels such as the salicylic acid peel. We also carry the Obagi skin care system that contains prescription strength bleaching cream and Retin-A. In addition, IPL photofacial rejuvenation is also very helpful for inflammation, redness, brown discoloration and calming down active acne.

Once your acne is clear, The Bellevue Laser & Cosmetic Center can then help you with any residual acne scarring. During your consultation, our providers will determine the best treatment plan for the type of scarring that you have. Severe pitted scars may require minor surgery to remove. If you have darker skin color and/or if you have milder acne scars, the Palomar LUX 1540 laser may be the best option. For more severe acne scars, you may be a good candidate for the Fractional CO2 laser. Sometimes a combination of treatments will yield the best results. Our providers have had tremendous success treating acne scars. You don’t have to live with them any longer. Call to schedule a consultation today!
